Our Team

“We have been there.  We have each journeyed to the depths of ourselves and found our love, strength and joy.  We have shed off our past and embraced our present.  We look to the future with confidence and hope.  We offer that clarity to you and welcome you to embark on your own journey with us.”

Maria Simpson

Maria Simpson

Rise Up Creator and Program Director

Maria has worked with youth for over 20 years in supervisory, therapeutic, academic and foster care settings.  She has worked in public and private education, wilderness programs and has spent the last five years working residential treatment.  She has had the pleasure of teaching youth from four-years-old through high school.  Maria loves watching them learn, through experience, who they are and just how much they are capable of.  Through both her jobs and her efforts raising three teenagers, she sees the crucial need our youth have–as well as our society– for a deeper level of guidance and connection.

Maria lives in Washington, Utah with her quirky husband and three crazy/wonderful kids.  She finds solace in nature and would be a backpacking nomad if life would let her.  Her love for youth is genuine and a core part of who she is.  Maria is deeply grateful to the people who have been a part of her life, for the lessons they have taught her, the inspiration given, and that each and every step has led her to the warm and cozy life she has worked so hard for.

“Man is not fully conditioned or determined but rather determines himself whether he gives in to conditions or stands up to them.  In other words, man is ultimately self-determining.  Man does not simply exist but always decides what his existence will be, what he will become in the next moment.” — Viktor E.
